North Midlands Under-18s were beaten 14-8 by Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire in the Super Sunday tournament at Broadstreet RFC near Coventry this afternoon.

North Midlands were 14 points adrift at one stage but staged a fightback in the second half which produced a try for lock Tom Griffiths (Bromsgrove School and Hereford) and a penalty from Will Goodwin (Ellesmere College and Shropshire) who is the son of county coach.

The game was re-run of last season's final, which was also won by NL&D, but on this occasion it was the third place play-off. North Midlands' hopes of reaching the final were ended by a defeat by Staffordshire in their final group match.

The Midlands Under-18 selectors will now select a squad for assessment and training ahead of the Divisional Festival which will be played in Leeds early in the New Year.
