ENGLAND Women’s flanker Sarah Hunter has been appointed the RFU Community Rugby Coach for Women and Girls for Birmingham.
Hunter, 24, plays her club rugby for Lichfield and succeeds Heather Smith as one of three new Community Rugby Coaches (CRCs) in North Midlands.
Dan Tanner has been appointed CRC for Birmingham with Stu Eades taking over a similar role in Worcestershire.
Hunter, who has progressed through the Rugby Football Union for Women’s player pathway system, made her senior international debut against Scotland in 2007 and has now won 18 caps.
Community Rugby Coaches provide support to the RFU’s Rugby Development Officers coaching at all ages, particularly at 16 years and above.
Their wide-ranging role includes introducing leadership skills to young people, providing training for teachers and other community deliverers in clubs, schools, colleges, universities and other community settings.

North Midlands Under-16s were edged out 15-12 by Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire in the first of two Super Sunday tournaments staged at Denstone College in Staffordshire this afternoon.
North Midlands, fresh from a victory over Warwickshire in their opening game, led 7-5 at the interval after a try from centre Ryan Millar (King Edward's Birmingham and Greater Birmingham) was converted by fly-half Tom Sharwood (Bishop Perowne School and Worcestershire).
Millar's try stemmed from a turnover made by prop Rob Higgins (Church Stretton School and Shropshire) and cancelled out NL&D's early five points lead.
North Midlands went 12-5 up when winger Alex Rumsey (Minster School and Herefordshire) scored an unconverted try early in the second half, but NL&D rallied strongly.
The Three Counties levelled the scores with a converted try and snatched victory with a late penalty.
North Midlands were well led by captain and number eight Daniel Young (Bromsgrove School and Worcestershire) and his back-row colleague Matt Masters (Idsall School and Shropshire) also made a telling contribution before he was forced out of the game at half time by a dead leg injury.
North Midlands play their next match against East Midlands in the second Super Sunday tournament which will be staged at Broadstreet RFC near Coventry on November 15 (11am).

Dr Richard Laird has been recognised for his outstanding service to Hereford with the presentation of a Rugby Football Union VIP tie.
Dr Laird is the doctor in charge of medical services at Hereford and has been involved with the club's medical services throughout his 30 year association with the Wyeside club.
His voluntary service to rugby was acknowledged with a successful nomination for an RFU VIP tie which was presented to Dr Laird by Frank Dullehan, Hereford's secretary.
The RFU understand how valuable the contribution of volunteers is to the successful running of rugby clubs across the country. Some clubs have certain individual members whose efforts go beyond the call of duty and make a special difference to their club.
For recognition of exceptional achievements, volunteers can be nominated for a RFU VIP tie or scarf, which have been exclusively designed for this recognition scheme. |

North Midlands Under-18s were beaten 14-8 by Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire in the Super Sunday tournament at Broadstreet RFC near Coventry this afternoon.
North Midlands were 14 points adrift at one stage but staged a fightback in the second half which produced a try for lock Tom Griffiths (Bromsgrove School and Hereford) and a penalty from Will Goodwin (Ellesmere College and Shropshire) who is the son of county coach.
The game was re-run of last season's final, which was also won by NL&D, but on this occasion it was the third place play-off. North Midlands' hopes of reaching the final were ended by a defeat by Staffordshire in their final group match.
The Midlands Under-18 selectors will now select a squad for assessment and training ahead of the Divisional Festival which will be played in Leeds early in the New Year.
